March 22, 2020: Tech Support, Genesis Access, etc,

Dear Parents and Community Members,

As you are aware, yesterday, Governor Murphy announced additional measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 including a mandatory shutdown for all New Jersey residents with the exclusion of essential personnel.  Please be assured that we will continue to provide remote learning for our 3,200 students as we move forward. Additionally, we will continue to deliver lunch to participants of the free and reduced lunch program.

Our Tech Team is Happy to Help

During week one of the closure, we were able to assist families who did not have wireless access and/or available devices at home.  Now that the Governor’s executive order has been issued and we are limited only to essential personnel, our commitment to our students and their families remains a top priority.  We request that you contact our tech help line at if your child has a problem with his or her Chromebook. This will make it easier for device exchange or pick up. Thank you in advance for your patience as we respond to requests and schedule pick-ups.

Genesis Gradebook

Thank you for your support as we all continue to learn. In an effort to reduce stress, as of Tuesday, March 24, 2020 we are turning off Genesis gradebook access for parents and students. The needs of our students are at the forefront of our thoughts and actions.

As we make decisions, our goals and expectations for our e-learning experience includes:

  • Focusing on feedback/coaching
  • Offering encouragement and support
  • Cultivating learning and engagement
  • Building an online Rville community

Therefore, we are instructing our staff to focus on the actions above, not assigning grades. Students are still expected to complete assignments within the assigned timelines and teachers will be tracking each student’s submissions. Completion of assignments counts for attendance. If students are not completing work, teachers and/or school counselors will contact home to offer additional support. We also urge you to reach out to your child’s teacher if he or she needs a little extra support.  We ask for your patience as we consult with the NJDOE and other school districts about the length of marking periods and marking period/trimester grades. Once we know more, we will communicate with you. All other Genesis functions will remain operational, including attendance if you need to mark your child absent as well as the ability to view K-5 Trimester 2 report cards.

Once again we are here for you and will respond through email.  We appreciate your partnership during this time.

With gratitude,

Kathie Foster, Superintendent
