School Connection Forum Discusses District Goals
School Connection Forum

On Tuesday, October 4th, Acting Superintendent Kathie Foster, joined Acting Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Kim Tew, and Amanda Matticks, Acting K-8 Supervisor of Curriculum and Professional Development to host a School Connection Forum for parents across the district. The meeting, sponsored by the Robbinsville Board of Education, focused upon the 2016-2017 Superintendent’s Goals, created by Dr. Foster to better develop Robbinsville’s academic culture, facilities and security, fiscal practices, community engagement, and healthy school culture. After her overview, parents were asked to focus upon the area of academic culture since “college and career readiness” is a phrase that we constantly hear in the media, schools, and the workplace.

Because our world is changing so rapidly, in order to provide students with the most meaningful school experience we must consider what “college and career ready” means for our 21st century Robbinsville learners. To do so, Robbinsville teachers, administrators, parents, and students will be asked what they think it means to be “Robbinsville Ready,” or what skills and competencies we collectively want our graduates to attain.

Over the course of the 2016-2017 school year, the district will form diverse groups of stakeholders that will meet to discuss this issue.  They will define which twenty-first century skills (such as communication, perseverance, collaboration, global awareness, information literacy, problem solving, empathy, etc.) they believe all students should learn. That way, our graduates will not only survive in this new century, but thrive. The School Connection Forum was our first meeting of the 2016-2017 school year to gather parent input and feedback about these vital skills. As we identify these key competencies, we will communicate them to the larger Robbinsville community and begin to plan how to embed our Robbinsville Ready Skills into daily instruction and assessments.  We look forward to ongoing meetings with our parents and community members about this initiative as well as our other 2016-2017 Superintendent’s Goals.
